Anybody who votes against Trump is by definition a liberal, and he knows how they're going to vote, even when one is a conservative, and therefore votes how he doesn't know they're going to vote, thereby defining themselves as a liberal if they didn't vote in the way he thought they wouldn't. I hope that clears it up a little.

@Horace said in Watch for the pivot: His poll numbers are still being framed in right-leaning media as all-time great numbers, for this long into a presidency. That might even be accurate from certain perspectives. I'm not sure he'll be motivated to pivot. It’s a personal record. I read that, as of his SOTU speech, he had the second lowest net approval of any modern president, with he himself having been lower in his first term.

We’ve become myopically focused on government as the driver of prosperity. I’ve always seen the right’s role as expanding the pie and the left’s role as distributing it. Now both are focused on distributing it - and no one is paying attention to fostering the pipeline of talented citizens to actually do the work. I think it’s a cultural problem as well. We take it for granted that our elite institutions will remain elite.

@taiwan_girl UK and France will look to increasing their existing nuclear arsenals. I also believe we will see more European countries obtain nuclear weapon capability. Germany, Sweden and probably Poland to start. The first two almost certainly.

https://9to5mac.com/2025/03/20/iphones-were-being-stolen-off-porches-right-after-delivery-and-now-we-know-how/ Last month, federal authorities arrested 13 people in connection with what they say was an international crime ring that targeted FedEx deliveries nationwide. […] The group created software to scrape FedEx tracking numbers and bribed AT&T store employees to get order details and delivery addresses, according to a criminal complaint filed in New Jersey. The group then sent thieves to pick off the packages and bring them back to destinations like the Brooklyn shop.

@Jolly YOu always have the most interesting articles. Thanks for sharing. When I was traveling to one place, I was given malaria medicine but after reading about potential side effects, I decided to take the risk and not take any. Worked out okay. (she says as she starts shivering violently. LOL)

@Jolly said in Voice of America: I think many today do not agree with some of his actions. But Trump is actually doing something. You may not like it, but things are happening. Too many people who come into a new position think change for change sake is a good thing. Not always the case. See it in companies and organizations alot. People feel they have to justify their new position when the reality is that things will probably not be as good as they claim they WILL be and probably not as bad as they claim things WERE. Were you in agreement when President Obama made the change to health and started the Affordable Care Act?

That makes a lot of sense. Cool! A lot of the tools I use at work keep coming out with more releases with AI assistants, etc. It's like the early days of search engines where you can 80% trust them but still need to verify a lot.

@jon-nyc said in JFK files: Not much new but some details come out that were redacted in previous versions. I can’t view the thread (no Twitter account) but I presume there’s nothing groundbreaking in it? PII of CIA, and some 60s CIA tradecraft tidbits? I was mentioning in another thread a few days ago about how folks shouldn’t hold their breath for anything juicy, IMO.

By the way I don’t remember much venue shopping with Trump. They could have argued for NJ instead of FL for a more friendly jury (potentially) but didn’t. And Trump ended up with that incompetent magat judge that kept getting pimp slapped by the 11th circuit.

Again, why bother? Let's keep spending money we don't have, to pay people to do nothing, while the country's education system slides further into an abyss. If you've got a better idea than DeSantis, let's hear it.

@Axtremus said in Where did all the spines go?: @Copper said in Where did all the spines go?: I think most people would assume he is a fictional character invented by the NYT guy. Isn't that what the NYT does? Are you saying that it is? An unnamed source told him.

Congress's lack of diligence is a major reason we are where we are. They've been kicking many cans down the road a long, long time.
